Benson founded Venturous as a single family office in 2013. Since then, it grew and evolved into its current structure with the Venturous Group being founded in 2019.

Continuing on this trajectory, under Benson’s leadership, Venturous Group closed a record-breaking US$131M Series A funding round at the end of Q1 2021. With strong investor demand, the company increased the round from the original target of US$80 million, making it the largest Series A in Asia in the Citytech sector.

Benson is a “3-in-1”: Combining his expertise as civil engineer, software engineer and financial engineer with a deep understanding of investing in China, the private equity pioneer has an extensive track record spanning over 30 years of successful investments in Asia.

Before Venturous, Benson was a Partner at Fidelity Growth Partners Asia, a venture capital and private equity platform that produced one of the best track records in the history of China technology investing. He also co-led Electra Partners Asia, co-founded Hellman & Friedman Asia and was the first Chinese M&A expert recruited into S.G. Warburg.

Benson holds a MSc in Computing from the University of Oxford and a “double first” BSc in Civil Engineering from Imperial College London. He and his family divide their time between China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
